A Curious Invitation present London Month of the Dead

FROM EARTH TO CLAY
A Pottery Workshop in Victorian Gravestone Symbolism
On Sunday the 1st October 2023 at 2 pm

Join Claire Slack, the Heritage Officer for the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, for a 3-hour creative pottery workshop that explores the Victorian tradition of gravestone symbolism.

During the workshop, we will explore the historical significance of burial grounds, uncover beliefs and traditions surrounding death, and delve into the enchanting language of flowers that captivated the Victorians. But that's not all! In this hands-on experience, you will have the opportunity to create your very own hand-built clay gravestone, monument, or any other inspired piece that captures the essence of the Cemetery Park's symbolism. Choose the symbols that resonate with your personal narrative, allowing your creation to tell your story.

By the end of the workshop, you will leave with your unique piece, a symbolically meaningful memento that reflects the heritage and creativity of the Cemetery Park. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore history, symbolism, and pottery in one experience.

Tickets £35 including a 20% donation toward a host of restoration projects at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park
