| MEMENTO MANTIS An Insect Setting and Preservation Workshop with Suzette Field Saturday 3rd October 2026 at 3:30 pm The praying mantis has long fascinated people as a creature of beauty, mystery and myth. Revered in some cultures as a symbol of patience and contemplation, and feared in others for its predatory nature, its extraordinary form makes it one of the most striking insects in the natural world. Join taxidermist Suzette Field for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own beautifully framed praying mantis display. Working with a preserved specimen, you’ll learn how to carefully position and mount your mantis before arranging it within a deep box frame to create a unique miniature diorama. A selection of natural and gothic-inspired materials will be available, allowing you to build a scene around your specimen and make your piece entirely your own. Whether you prefer something elegantly botanical or deliciously macabre, you’ll leave with a finished artwork ready to hang on your wall. No previous experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Suitable for beginners as well as those looking to expand their curiosity cabinet with an extraordinary new creation. Tickets £45 including all materials and a 20% donation toward a host of restoration projects at Kensal Green Cemetery. Suzette Field |
