Guided tour of Abney Park Cemetery
WOMEN OF ABNEY
A Guided Tour of Abney Park with Sue Doe
Saturday 1st November 2025  from 11:00 am and 2:00 pm

Historian and storyteller Susan Doe returns to lead us on a further tour of the wonderfully gothic Abney Park cemetery in Stoke Newington, with a deep dive into the remarkable lives and deaths of largely forgotten women of Hackney, who devoted their lives to helping others.

These are women who shaped Victorian England and left legacies that still resonate today, including a Victorian dentist, an opera singer who was also a scientist, the heroine of a fire in Hackney Road, an animal rights activist and an unsung Salvation Army pioneer buried nowhere near the grand Booth memorials.

Abney Park is one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ garden cemeteries of London, and is now a woodland memorial park and Local Nature Reserve, an oasis of peace and greenery with a fascinating history.

Tickets £12 including a 20% donation toward a host of restoration projects at Abney Park Cemetery

Venue - The Dissenters' Chapel, Kensal Green Cemetery, London (ticket includes a tour of the catacombs)
